Tortillas de maíz con tortilladora de hierro fundido

Corn tortillas made with a cast-iron tortilla press

This is a recipe you can enjoy at any time, for your dinner or for an afternoon with family and friends, enjoying the best Mexican flavor. With these tortillas, you can prepare tacos and remember that you can accompany them with whatever you like best.

Ingredients

  • 200 g corn flour
  • 300 ml warm water (38/40ºC)
  • A teaspoon of salt

Preparation

  1. In a large bowl, place the flour. Add the salt and mix well.
  2. Little by little, add the warm water while mixing the dough with a wooden spoon or your hands. Continue mixing until the dough becomes smooth and pliable. If it is too dry, add a little more water; if it is too wet, add a little more corn flour.
  3. Divide the dough into balls the size of a large walnut. The number of balls will depend on the size you want for your tortillas.
  4. Preheat a comal or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. To flatten the balls, you can use your tortilla press, along with plastic wrap, parchment paper, or stretch film to prevent the dough from sticking.
  6. Place each ball in the center of your tortilla press and close it.
  7. Carefully remove the tortilla from the paper or plastic and place it in the hot skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until the tortilla begins to brown and puffs up slightly.
  8. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls until you have cooked all the tortillas.
  9. Once cooked, you can serve them immediately. They are delicious hot, filled with your favorite ingredients, such as cheese, meat, avocado, salsa, etc.

    Enjoy your homemade corn tortillas!
